The sensor uses temperature information to determine when the air conditioner should be turned on and off. Typically, the outside temperature must be at or below the set temperature for the system to turn on.
When the temperature in the room reaches the set temperature, the thermostat will turn the air conditioning off and on again to keep the room at the desired temperature. If the sensor is not working, the system may not be able to turn on or off, or the AC may never turn on.
The sensor can become broken or disconnected. The sensor can also become dirty and prevent the system from functioning properly.
